Turning the Tide is based in a sleepy seaside town on the east coast. It’s the story of one woman’s quest to keep her father’s boatyard afloat and the town she loves unchanged. When a handsome property developer arrives with ambitious plans for the area and quickly gains local support, it looks as if thing can only go one way, but there are plenty of surprises ahead.
At the heart of the story is a romance; two people with very different outlooks finding what they need in each other, but it’s also about the effects of change on a quiet, forgotten little town. There’s an element of suspense, too, with plenty of twists and turns along the way. It’s published by Choc Lit, ‘where heroes are like chocolate – irresistible’.
The inspiration for Turning the Tide came from falling in love with a keen sailor and being seduced by romantic notions of sleeping under starry skies in quiet little anchorages. That was until we bought our vintage wooden boat and I discovered how prone to seasickness I am! However, we have managed to sail halfway round Britain, from the east coast of England to the west coast of Wales. The sleepy backwaters, picturesque harbours and fascinating characters we met during our voyage all worked their way into my imagination and into my writing. Then, one day, I ‘saw’ Harry, my heroine, sitting by the water’s edge and knew I had to tell her story.
